Plot

This film revolves around a middle-aged man who lives below the poverty line and feels that people should have the power to not just elect their representatives, but also to send them back, if they are corrupt.

Story

Mannar Mannan (Guru Somasundaram) is a middle-aged village man, who calls himself the president of the nation and he getting support from a social activist Ponoonjal (Mu. Ramaswamy) an elderly man who has a habit of taking offenders to court and Isai (Gayathri Krishna), a young widow act as his advisor and social media manager (she uploads every moment from their protests, and these become viral memes online).

The trio goes about challenging every aspect of his village that is unfair or doesn’t seem right. One day, during the court, the female judge finding that Mannar is not in his right mind. The judge ordered an investigation and also to give him medical attention. What happened in his past life is a rest of the story.

Performance

Guru Somasundaram, the man who impressed us with his character performances in films like Aaranya Kaandam and Jigarthanda, has played the lead role for the first time. He is a thorough performer, and there can be no second thoughts about his acting. Watch out, he is going to be a major contender at the award shows next year.

Both, Ramya Pandian and Gayathri as typical rural ladies fit into the role easily and performed very naturally. Ramasamy and Bava Chelladurai gives their ample support to the film. Especially, Ramasamy’s performance in the climax scene needs special mention.

Review

From Joker, Raju Murugan also joins the elite list of modern day directors who elevate Tamil cinema to international standards. His dialogues are very bold and straight forwarded. Joker is predominantly a satire on the current corrupted political situation and not to be missed.
